Human Resources

At Mondrian Alpha, we understand the critical role human capital plays in the success and scalability of investment firms. In increasingly competitive markets, the ability to attract, retain, and develop exceptional talent has become a key differentiator across the alternative investment industry. Our dedicated Human Resources practice specialises in the placement of HR professionals across hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, and alternative asset managers globally.

We partner with clients on mandates ranging from HR Associate and Talent Acquisition hires through to senior HR Business Partner, Head of HR, and Chief People Officer appointments. Our team supports firms at all stages of growth, from early-stage investment platforms building out their first institutional infrastructure to global multi-strategy businesses expanding internationally.

We understand that HR within investment management environments requires a highly commercial and adaptable skillset. Many of the professionals we represent operate in lean, fast-paced organisations where the HR function extends far beyond traditional personnel management, encompassing compensation strategy, organisational design, performance management, employee relations, talent development, and strategic business partnering with investment and executive leadership teams. Our extensive market coverage and longstanding relationships allow us to identify individuals with the technical capability, commercial judgement, and cultural alignment required to succeed within high-performance investment environments.

Senior HR Business Partner — Expanding European Hedge Fund

A leading European hedge fund engaged us to support the buildout of its US business and appoint its first dedicated HR hire in the region.

The role required an experienced and commercially minded HR professional capable of quickly establishing credibility within a predominantly front-office population while partnering closely with senior investment leadership on both strategic and operational people matters. Acting as a key business partner to the CIO and broader investment team, the successful candidate would oversee all US HR activities, including employee relations, organisational development, talent strategy, and operational HR processes, while ensuring alignment with the firm’s London headquarters and broader global culture.

In addition to proven buy-side HR experience supporting investment professionals, the client maintained an exceptionally high bar around cultural fit, intellectual calibre, communication skills, and academic pedigree. Following a targeted and highly confidential search process, we identified and introduced a shortlist of experienced hedge fund HR Business Partners with proven experience supporting revenue-generating populations within investment management environments.

After a comprehensive interview process involving multiple in-person meetings, case studies, and aptitude assessments, we successfully placed a Senior HR Business Partner with prior experience supporting investment professionals within both hedge fund and broader buy-side environments, including direct exposure to scaling and institutionalising US operations in partnership with an international leadership team.

HR Director, Regional Lead — Global Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund

A global multi-strategy hedge fund undergoing rapid expansion across AUM, headcount, and international office footprint mandated us to appoint a London-based HR Director.

The successful candidate would play a critical role in scaling the firm’s people infrastructure in line with the business’s continued growth trajectory. The remit encompassed oversight and development across all core HR disciplines, including talent acquisition, reward, operations, and business partnering, while also acting as a strategic advisor to the executive leadership team on organisational and geographic expansion initiatives across APAC and North America. Alongside the strategic aspects of the mandate, the role also required a highly hands-on approach to operational execution, process development, and day-to-day management of the HR function.

The search required identifying candidates capable of operating both strategically and operationally within a fast-scaling investment platform. In particular, the firm sought an individual with proven experience designing and implementing people strategy in partnership with senior leadership, while also possessing the credibility and technical capability to work closely with the heads of each HR vertical to further institutionalise and mature the function. Given the rarity of this profile within the market, we focused our search on candidates with a combination of Tier 1 investment banking experience and subsequent exposure to more entrepreneurial buy-side or high-growth environments. This enabled us to identify individuals with both institutional best practice exposure and the adaptability required within a leaner investment management platform.

Following a targeted search process and rigorous interview programme, we successfully placed a senior HR professional with a strong investment banking foundation and extensive experience building and developing HR infrastructure within high-performance financial services environments. The successful hire has since played a key role in the firm’s continued international expansion and ongoing evolution of its people strategy.
